What's the difference between a raised deck, an attached deck and a floating deck?

A raised deck is supported by beams or bridging and is usually on the second story or higher. It is also an attached deck.

An attached deck is lag screwed to the home. If the house already has vinyl or aluminum siding, the siding should be cut away to allow a more secure attachment.

A floating deck is one that comes within one to three inches from the home. It is a very safe deck, and the advantage is that the siding does not have to be disturbed.
